Some ‘not-so-famous’ Hindi songs

Here I list some of my favorite songs which I think didn’t get much popular. At least I have never seen them in the so called music channels.

1)  Naam Ada Likhna (Yahaan..) – A not-so-heard of movie, Yahaan was released in 2005 and starred Jimmy Shergill and Minishaa Lamba. It is a love story based in Kashmir.  Fell in love with the song the first time I heard it. Shreya’s voice is as always sweet and soothing whereas Shaan gives a melancholic touch.  My favorite lines from the song are-

 Aao Naaaaa Aaao Naaaaa

Jhelum Mein Beh Lenge
Vadi Ke Masuam Bhi
Ek Din To Badlenge
Kabhi Kabhi Aas Paas Chand Rehta Hai
Kabhi Kabhi Aas Paas Shaam Rehti Hai

2) Jeene Ke Ishaare(Phir Milenge) – Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have the habit of giving some melodies which you can’t just stop humming. Many are chartbusters, but I wonder why this one went unnoticed(I feel so). Sung by Shankar itself, this is a soulful melody backed by some wonderful lyrics by Prasoon Joshi.  I love the starting guitar and it sets the foundation for the rest of the song. Favorite lines-

Jeene Ke Ishare Mil Gaye
Bichde The Kinare Mil Gaye

Meri Zindagi Main Teri Baarish Kya Hui
Mere Raste Darya Bane Behne Lage
Meri Karvaton Ko Tune Aake Kya Chhua
Kahin Khwab Neendon Ki Gali Rehne Lage

3) Mera Saaya Saath (Mera Saaya) – Purists may disagree if I say this is not a popular song, but the only reason for including in this list that even though I am a huge fan of old Hindi movie songs I missed out on this one. The song is haunting and remains with you for quite some time even after you stop listening, as if someone is dragging you towards it. Lata Mangeshkar’s voice never sounded better. Favorite lines-

Mera gham rahaa hain shaamil tere dukh mein, tere gham mein
mere pyaar ne diya hain, teraa saath har janam mein
tu koi janam bhee legaa, Meraa saayaa saath hogaa

4) Dard Ka Aalam(Babul) – Sung by Kunal Ganjawala this is also an under-rated song. The sulky voice of his lends a very morose mood to this. Even though I have heard this song been sung in reality shows I feel it deserves a bit more. I did my part by putting this here.

Bheegi palkon se churaa lungaa nami
rehane dungaa naa, khahin koi kami
tumko daaman naa bhigone dungaa
ab kabhi tumko naa rone dungaa
uljhane ghum ki parchhaiye
de do mujhe apni tanhaaiyaan
gumnamiyaan bhi do, naakaamiyaan bhi do
viraaniyaan bhi de do, de do naa

5) Dekho Na(Swades) – Some of you might be wondering does ‘Swades’ have such a song? Yes it does, and it is a very romantic duet. Sung by the magical duo of Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik who have  given us some brilliant duets, comes another one.

Raat hai leke aayi, kitne armaan anjaane

Kehti hai sau afsaane, sunta hoon main
Raat ne li angdaai, anhoni baat hai hoti
Bikhre hai jaise moti chunta hoon main
Tumne, ye kya keh diya
Meri aankhon mein diye hai jaise jal gaye
Tumne ye kya keh diya
Meri raaton ke andhere jaise dhhal gaye
